Nov 18, 2017 - Hundreds of people took time out of their Saturday morning today to stop by Miller-Driscoll to see the newly renovated school. Visitors were greeted by Wilton Public Schools Superintendent Kevin Smith, Principal Kathy Coon and Assistant Principals Jeremy Cross and Janean Carly. Young families, seniors, former MD students, town officials, business owners, new residents, long-time residents and even future residents were among those who strolled the hallways while chatting with MD staff and Board of Education members who were stationed throughout the building. The reviews were very positive, enthusiastic and very much appreciated.
Nov 9, 2017 - Chris Burney reported to the MDBC that the HVAC problem is that the cooling equipment's efficiency doesn't allow for the humidity to be controlled. To solve the problem reheat coils will be installed in the affected classrooms (those in the renovated parts of the building--none in the new construction) to provide a longer cooling period that will, in turn, allow for the humidity to be controlled.
Oct 11, 2017 - Chris Burney, Director of Facilities, reported to the Board of Selectmen at their Oct 10 meeting that there are problems with the HVAC system not meeting environmental design specifications on hot and humid days in some parts of the building and that all involved parties are working to resolve the issue.

Sep 5, 2017 - Wilton Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 2nd Grade students start the 2017-2018 school year today in the newly renovated Miller-Driscoll School. Pre-K students start tomorrow. The fourth and final construction phase ended September 3*, four months ahead of the original projected completion date of December 31, 2017.
The school has been transformed from an aged, dark building with a history of leaks and inefficient and noisy heating & cooling system, that lacked fire safety and security features, efficient traffic flow--and more--into a light-filled, colorful, code compliant, sound and comfortable building with safer drop off/pick up areas, improved site circulation--and more.
Hats off, kudos, and many many thanks to Turner Construction Project Manager Michael Douyard and Wilton Director of Facilities Chris Burney for their expertise and tenacity in leading the project. The No-Rest-for-the-Weary Award goes to Juan Carvajal, Miller-Driscoll head custodian, and his crew who were in the building through Sunday cleaning, polishing and taking care of hundreds of other details before the doors opened today.
There are a few additional photos on the Plans/Drawings page now, but many more, plus information about the renovation and features of the school, will be posted here by the end of this week.
* Landscaping and punch list items remain to be completed.

Abatement activity will be included in these changes.
All abatement will be performed when school is not in session (summer 2016, winter break 2016, spring break 2017, summer 2017), followed by the renovation of that same area, with students reoccupying the space only after the renovation of that area is complete (weeks or months after the abatement activity).
